We’ve built a list of the most popular and respectable scary movies of 2011:
Insidious – Quite possibly the best scary movie of the year. If you’re looking for a Halloween treat, this should be your first choice. Insidious begins with a small family moving into a new home. After days of witnessing unusual events and scares, the family movies into, what they think, is a safer home. Unfortunately for them, the haunting continues. From the makers of SAW. – Released April 1st
Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark – An young girl (Bailee Madison) is sent to live with her father (Guy Pearce) and his girlfriend (Katie Holmes). Eventually they discover bizarre creatures in the home that want her for themselves. - Released August 26th.
Priest – A priests niece was kidnapped by evil vampires. He leaves the church against it’s rule to capture his relative and return her to safety. Paul Bettany plays the bad ass priest that takes on the evil vampires and their army of followers. - Released in May.
Final Destination 5 – If you haven’t been stuck on a movie-free island for the past 15 years, you’ve probably seen a Final Destination movie and quite frankly, this one looks like it’ll be repeating the trend of coming up with creative ways to mangle, hack up, burn and demolish boldies after a decent amount of suspense and build-up. - Released August 12th
Black Death – Set during medieval times, when the bubonic plague was turning into an epidemic, a monk is given the mission to learn about reports of people being brought back from the death. In this film, you’ll get to see a lot of dead corpses rotting and people being tortured while being chained up. – Released in June.
The Resident – Have you ever had a creepy landlord? Well, in The Resident, you’re going to get a peek at what it would be like if you did. In this film a young doctor discovers that she’s being watched by her landlord. – Released in February.
Insidious – After moving into their new home a family discovers that their home is haunted. After moving again into a second home, they discover that it wasn’t the home that was haunted, but actually a member of their family. – Released April 2011.
Mothers Day – After three brothers in trouble with the police flee to their mothers home, they discover she’s lost the home from foreclosure. The mother creatively helps the children escape the police and teaches the new home-owners a lesson. – Released April 2011.
Battle: Los Angeles – For the alien believers out there, if you’ve seen War of the Worlds, this movie offers a concept very similar but with a new twist. It’s a strong movie with a touch of cheesiness and whole lot of action. It also has some of the best alien technology graphics that we’ve seen in a while. It also offers some similarities (in design) to District 9 – Released in March.
Paranormal Activity 3 – While the first Paranormal Activity (#1) was widely popular, the second seemed to be decent, but lacked the suspense that the first one offered. Reviews have said that the last 20 minutes of the film is the best part, so if it puts you to sleep just fast forward. Soon Joolst and Schulman will be launching their 3rd Paranormal Activity video. – Released October 2011.
John Carpenter’s The Ward – Out August 2011. A young woman is institutionalized at a mental institution and then is harassed and terrorized by a ghost. If you enjoy suspense that leads to loud and frantic surprises, then you’ll be a fan. - Out August 2011.
Scream 4 – Need we explain? After a decade of being safe from harm, Sidney Prescott is revisited by the Ghostface Killer. - Released April 2011.

I’m going to watch it tomorrow
It was released on the 21st of October
Paranormal Activity 3 was EPIC. It had soo much action in it, no falling asleep for me. Not even after the movie ended.
Aww! I wanna watch it! But I live in indonesia, so it’s not released it yet in my country D: I’ve seen two trailers of Paranormal Activity 3. My friends and I wanna watch it in the movies!
Love watching this kind of films…paranormal activity film of japan, really scared me a lot..
I think that Insidious is the scariest movie of the year!
How can no one think that Grave Encounters was scary?
Decent list – to me, ‘Insidious’ was far and above the scariest movie I saw in 2011. The year, IMO, was a bit on the weakish side for frightening films, but that one was beautifully done. ‘Insidious’ is topping almost all the lists of the best horror movies of 2011 that I’ve seen thus far.
HAS ANYONE SEEN THE ULTIMATE SCARY HORROR THAT HAD ACTUALLY GIVEN YOU NIGHTMARES?!?!
If so, email me: ImaDragonRawrrr@hotmail.co.uk
great films
sooooo scary
I sooo want to see paranormal activity 3!!!
I watched Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark, it was great, but could have been better, I slept fine after it and I have a big imagination which makes things creepier, but it didn’t make The Dark creepier sadly.
Final Destination 5 Sucked. I mean…the deaths don’t look real and the story is lame. But paranormal activity 3 was way better than the second one.
im so scared
I’m so so scared
Has anyone seen a horror movie that made you have to sleep with the light on and have nightmares? I love horror movies but they fail to scare me!! I fell asleep during Paranormal Activity, and laughed during Saw…The Ring was pretty good. Even Insidious didn’t scare me! If you have seen a REALLY SCARY ONE like sleep-with-lights-on-and-stll-have-nightmares type of horror movie, email me! courtyelings@hotmail.com
What does hving the lights on do for you? I mean really, most ghost sighting are reported in mid-day so…
