Boston Marathon Bombings of 2013

In Boston today, at 2:50 PM, two home-made bombs detonated in the center of the city at Copley Square, where the finish line of the Boston Marathon is located.

2 People Killed, 23 Injured in the Boston Marathon Bombings

So far, Boston Police have reported that 2 people have been killed and 23 people have been injured. Police say that the bombs were made from home-made products and were delivered in backpacks that were delivered to strategically placed locations in the city. An additional 2 backpacks with explosive devices have been found but never detonated. The bombs are not said to be nuclear or have any radiation effects.

UPDATE: 3rd Bomb Detonated

A third bomb has been detonated at the JFK Library near Umass Boston. Police believe the 3rd explosion is related to the prior two explosions. No additional information is available during this time.

The Boston Marathon was cancelled, all Boston flights were grounded and cancelled, the Green line subway was shut down, the Boston Public Library was closed and evacuated and the main roads of Boston have been evacuated and cleared.

Numerous runners and marathon supports were injured in the blasts in downtown Boston. Runners have been re-directed to Kenmore square in Boston, which is located further down Commonwealth Ave and only minutes from Boston University.

Boston residents are recommended to text on their cell phones instead of making calls to reduce bandwidth and keeps lines open and available for emergency calls. All Boston Police have been called into the city to assist with relief efforts.

Washington DC is on a heightened state of alert and the President and Vice President have been notified of the Blasts. The Secret Service has shut down Pennsylvania Avenue. President Obama has offered federal assistance and resources to the City of Boston. Mayor Manino of Boston who was previously hospitalized from  a non-related injury has been notified of the explosions.

According to ABC New, Boston Police are telling people in Boston not to use their cell phones because they could potentially detonate other hidden bombs in the area.

The Mandarin hotel has been evacuated, which is only seconds away from the center of the explosion.
